SRC Deployment Options

Detailed below are three use cases where the SRC (and the SRC Agent) would be considered for RFID inventory management.

Automated Portal (Headless SRC)

With this solution there would be a read point configured at a doorway or gate entry/exit point that transacts products arriving (receipts) or product leaving (consumptions).  There is no user interaction with this model. RFID badge cards can optionally be provided to users that will link with transactions when they are scanned.

Use case #1

1.Bob is an assembler at Company ABC and needs VMI product

2.Bob walks into the VMI storage area. Access to this area is either non-secured or has secured access by Company ABC

3.Bob grabs the required product and walks out of the room

4.As Bob leaves the room, the product he has taken is scanned along with his badge

5.The product is moved from “INSTORAGE” to “CONSUMED” and Bobs UHF badge card is linked with the transaction. If Bob did not have a UHF badge card or it was not scanned, nothing would be linked with the transactions. Note: as multiple users can pull product at the same time the badge association with each VMI product may not be accurate

Access Portal Lite (Headless SRC with Badge Authorization)

With this solution there would be a read point configured at a doorway or gate entry/exit point that transacts products arriving (receipts) or product leaving (consumptions).  The entry point is a locked door/gate that requires user authorization to access.  The user will authorize using an HF or barcode badge that must be valid in ERP. The authorization model is the same operation that is performed today with the badge access cabinets. The badge card that is authorized is then linked with the subsequent RFID transactions.

Use case #2

1.Tom is an assembler at Company DEF and needs VMI product

2.Tom walks to the VMI storage area and scans his HF or barcode badge card. Access to this secure area is managed by the SRC Agent

3.A check is done against ERP (or other system) to make sure Tom is authorized to this area, and the door/gate is unlocked

4.Tom enters the VMI storage area and grabs the product he needs

5.As Tom leaves the storage area and the product he has taken is scanned

6.The product is moved from “INSTORAGE” to “CONSUMED” and since Toms badge card was the last one scanned, it is linked with the transactions

Access Portal (SRC Agent with Badge Authorization and Touchscreen Integration)

With this solution there would be a read point configured at a doorway or gate entry/exit point that transacts products arriving (receipts) or product leaving (consumptions).  The entry point is a locked door/gate that requires user authorization to access.  The user will authorize using an HF or barcode badge that must be valid in ERP. A valid badge will be followed by a required cost-center/dept selection by the user.  Once the cost-center/dept is selected, access is to the VMI storage area is opened.  The badge card that is authorized along with the selected cost-center/dept is then linked with the subsequent RFID transactions.

Use case #3

1.Sally is an assembler at Company XYZ and needs VMI product

2.Sally walks to the VMI storage area and scans her HF or barcode badge card. Access to this secure area is managed by the SRC Agent

3.A check is done against ERP to make sure Sally is authorized to this area (she is)

4.On the touchscreen display that is installed next to the doorway Sally is displayed a unique cost-center/dept hierarchy

5.Sally selects the cost-center or department that she intends to charge this product against

6.Once that has been selected, access to the storage area is opened up

7.Sally enters the storage and grabs VMI product

8.As she leaves the area the product is scanned is moved from “INSTORAGE” to “CONSUMED”.  With Sally’s badge card and cost center selection being the last one collected, it is linked with the transactions

9.The transactions that occurred are then displayed on the touchscreen. Sally has the option to view the activity, or simply walk away. There is no required user interaction at this point.

Likely Physical Deployment Options

An existing room where antennas/hardware would be installed at a doorway/chokepoint

An existing cage area where antennas/hardware would be installed at the gate entrance

A cage/fence area that is constructed specifically for housing RFID enabled VMI product

An engineered RFID tunnel that is assembled onsite and an easy to deploy portal at customer location
